War No More
Read Isaiah 1:1 through 5:30
[God] will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war (Isaiah 2:4).
Most countries today are concerned about national security, and with good reason. Disagreements and conflicts abound. Many nations distrust each other, while others simply hate their neighbors. When diplomacy fails, generals gather to discuss war. In some countries, warfare has become a way of life. History records numerous battles, much bloodshed, and many wars.
Our weapons have advanced beyond swords and spears. They are smarter, more effective, and downright devastating. We train soldiers so they can defend our borders and those of our allies. We are proud of their efforts, their sacrifice, yet we mourn the inevitable—warfare is costly and exacts a heavy human toll.
Isaiah’s prophecy gives hope to war-torn nations. One day, the divine Judge will come and settle every dispute. Weapons will no longer be used for combat, and we will study war no more.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord, help me pray that quarreling nations find true peace, a security only God can give.
