Of Course He Can

Read Matthew 21:12–27

Bev slipped in during the worship service and sat quietly in her pew. She enjoyed attending Calvary Temple in Portland, Oregon. She loved the joyful worship and hardly missed a Sunday. During the final song, she stood and raised her hands, but inside, her heart was crying.

She had trouble concentrating on the pastor’s sermon. Thoughts about Monday’s appointment preoccupied her mind. When the altar call came, she wiped away the tears and went forward. Little did anyone know she was going blind.

The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them (Matthew 21:14).

I can see nowNext week, Bev came early to church, with two sets of test results tucked into her Bible. After the service, she told Pastor Chuck about her failing eyesight, then handed him both reports. He almost fell over. Bev’s updated diagnosis: 20/20 vision, corrective lenses no longer needed, eye surgery unnecessary. Although the eye doctor was pleased, he had no explanation for her sudden improvement in vision.

Challenge for Today: God still heals at the church altar—go forward and believe.

Quicklook:  Matthew 21:12–17

I Will Heal You

dad and childI Will Heal You

Read 2 Kings 18:1 through 20:21; Luke 23:35–56

A father lay exhausted on the floor near the crib. It was past midnight and his 2-year-old had been crying nonstop for hours. When the toddler went to bed, he showed no sign of sickness. Now a fever burned. Charles lifted his son from the crib and placed him on a clean sheet on the floor, thinking it might be cooler. So far, nothing had helped to lower the fever.

Christopher crawled over and nestled his head on his daddy’s shoulder. The sounds of whimpering continued as heat radiated from the child’s body. His temperature was still rising.

A desperate prayer, filled with tears, went out to heaven: “Jesus, please heal my boy.” After praying, Charles reached out to check his son’s forehead. His brow felt sweaty yet cool to the touch. The fever was gone.

“This is what the LORD, the God of your father David says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the LORD” (2 Kings 20:5).

Some think tears are a sign of weakness, but not our God. Combined with prayer, genuine tears get God’s attention and can be the very conduit He uses to release faith in your life.

Prayer Suggestion: Find a place to pray and let the tears flow. Trust God’s ability to heal.
